Open Friday Control Center: Skills, Memory, and Desktop Agents
Open Friday is easiest to understand through its Control Center — a local web UI (typically http://127.0.0.1:8787) where conversation, memory, skills, and system settings meet.
Comms first
You speak (or type) in Comms. Friday routes the request: chat answer, research, memory lookup, file work, tasks, or computer use. That routing is what makes it feel like an assistant rather than a single chat box.
Skills as capability packs
Built-in skill packs cover:
- Chat — reasoning and conversation
- Computer use — vision and/or hybrid UIA actions on the desktop
- Research — structured look-ups
- Memory — store and recall selective context
- Files & tasks — practical day-to-day work
You extend capability by enabling skills — not by bolting random scripts onto a prompt.
Selective memory
Friday’s memory is designed to be useful and inspectable, backed by local embeddings. Durable context is controlled through the owner profile and memory tools — closer to a notebook than an opaque profile store.
Systems configuration
In Systems you configure:
- Owner profile (“About you”)
- Preferences and tone-related settings
- Camera / device options when enabled
These controls personalize the assistant for a specific operator rather than a generic demo persona.
Desktop agent modes
- Vision-oriented loop — screenshot → model → structured actions
- Hybrid UIA + vision — more reliable UI targeting when Windows-MCP tooling is enabled
Safety layers (approvals, policy tiers, emergency stop) exist because agents that can click are powerful — and should be constrained.
